Background: Hadeler grew up playing baseball, and he eventually came to the sobering realization shared by a vast majority of athletes. “When I realized I was never going to be a pro player is when I got out (as a player),” Hadeler said. His love for the game never wavered, though, and he quickly transitioned from player to coach. “I’ve always enjoyed the teaching aspect of it,” he said. Hadeler has coached teams ranging in age and skill level from 7-year-old coach pitch and T-ball all the way up to collegiate summer teams. He had been a Marshals Select coach for years when the club’s founder, former Major League Baseball all-star pitcher Mike Henneman, accepted an offer to return to the major leagues as a coach. Hadeler then assumed ownership of Marshals Select. That was more than a decade ago. “It is still getting better every year,” Hadeler said about the highly regarded program based north of Dallas in McKinney.

What he does: Marshals Select typically has about 200 players from throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area registered in a given year, although those numbers are on the rise since Hadeler added teams at the 13- and 14-year-old age levels by popular request. The organization had previously focused on players from ages 15-18, and helping them earn college scholarships has long been one of its primary goals. “The great thing about it is that I know that without that opportunity to play in college, some of these kids would not gone to college,” Hadeler said. Speaking of the organization’s priorities and philosophies, all 14 of them are listed on the Marshal’s Way page on the club’s website. The landing page for the About section includes history of the origin of the club and some of Henneman’s reasons for starting it two decades ago.

Making his mark: Hadeler has created a robust Recruiting section, and he isn’t shy about celebrating all the former Marshal Select players who have gone on to play in college (and professionally). He lists them all out year by year, using the Table page element, on the Former Marshals page. Also in the Recruiting section is a Videos page that lists a players' basic height, weight, hitting and throwing information along with professionally produced videos showcasing his skills.  

Fun fact: Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta (pictured on the Former Marshals page) was a McKinney Marshals ace when he attended Plano East Senior High School.
